Youth Outreach Program
The Youth Outreach program provides one on one support and assistance to young people in some of the more geographically isolated regions of the South West.
The program is staffed by professional mentors who live and work with youth in their local communities. The mentors are well established members of their community, and will have various contacts and local knowledge which is beneficial to the young person.
Young people between the ages of 12-25yrs are eligible for assistance, and the program currently operates in the following areas: AUSTRALIND, EATON, HARVEY, COLLIE, DONNYBROOK, MANJIMUP, BRIDGETOWN, PEMBERTON AND NORTHCLIFFE.
Referals to the program are received from various organisations within the community , including High schools, The Department of Community Development, the Justice Department and Disability Services. However, clients and families are also able to self refer to the program, and the referral process is one of simply contacting the program coordinator for discussion.
Mentors are able to assist young people in a variety of areas, including, job search, exploring study and training options, informal counselling/family mediation and linking up with other appropriate community services. Mentors can help young people to become more resilient, decrease their " risk" levels and form better relationships with their families and significant others within their communities
Together, the mentor and young person will develop a "personal action plan", which will assist the young person in setting some short and longer term goals. The mentor is able to provide their clients with general support, and help them to deal with life challenges as they arise.
Clients often exit the program reporting that their goals have been achieved, and that the support they have received from their mentor and the program coordinator has been very positive. Click Here for Brochure
