The MYS is a colourful, custom built caravan that easily converts into an amazing mobile recreational space equipped with electronic, lighting, musical, communications, sporting and safety equipment. It also provides barbeque and microwave facilities The MYS gives young people a much needed ‘sense of place’. It provides a unique space where they can meet and engage in a range of absorbing fun activities in a safe environment with access to supportive positive adults.
It provides young people with access to free or low cost activities which:
- Increase physical activity
- Provide positive social opportunities
- Increase access to current health education initiatives
- Reduce the isolation endemic in rural and remote communities
The MYS is a highly innovative collaborative response to issues of geographic and social isolation and lack of access to recreational facilities for young people throughout the South West.
It represents a strategic response to two issues most commonly raised by young people in the South West – the need for a safe and welcoming ‘youth space’ and the lack of social cultural and sporting opportunities – a scarcity greatly exacerbated by lack of transport in smaller towns.
Jobs South West Community Services (JSWCS) manages the Mobile Youth Space (MYS). It is jointly funded by South West Development Commission, Coca Cola and the South West Community Foundation and represents an excellent model of a successful public-private partnership.
The Mobile Youth Space is available for hire from Jobs South West. We can also provide Youth Workers to support community organisations using this excellent resource. Above all the MYS is about fun, learning and interaction it can also act as a catalyst to bring youth groups and youth workers together. BOOK NOW ONLINE
