Making It Real
Making It Real is a new innovative program for young people with disabilities aged 18 to 30.
Despite the excellent formal and informal skill building which occurs in the context of education support centres, these young people and the employment and support agencies working with them report difficulties in making successful transitions to 'real world' workplaces. These difficulties include managing the complexities and pace of work place communication, establishing and maintaining sound time management routines and consistently meeting workplace expectations in personal presentation.
The Making It Real program being presented by Jobs South West Community Services will these issues in safe, engaging, holistic ways. It will support these young people in developing confidence, communication skills and self management. It will provide them with community and workplace mentors to support their personal and professional skills development and offer work placements in industries linked to the aspirations of these young people.
A core part of Making It Real will be the availability of mentor support for an additional 10 weeks to offer post placement support to the participants.
The Making It Real program will run one day a week from 9am until 3pm for 10 weeks.
